Why We Love Marie Kondo
Ok, we admit it. Ever since she entered the Netflix-bingeing scene with her tv show Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, we’ve become a bit obsessed with the decluttering guru. If you’re not sure what we are talking about, you can head over to Netflix now to get caught up on the first season!
Marie Kondo is a soft-spoken, organizational consultant who works with clients to change their lives by decluttering their homes. Early this year, the best selling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing and Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up released her new tv series on Netflix and followers are jumping on board everywhere.
Marie’s style of holding possessions to ‘see if they spark joy’ and ‘thank them for their service’ has a cult-like following. And we understand why – the results are fabulous! And, even here at the Women’s Center, we are reaping the benefits too!
Three Good Reasons to KonMarie
KonMarie is Good for Your Wallet. Marie Kondo’s approach to tidying is so unique, the name of her company, KonMarie, has become a verb in Urban Dictionary. To ‘konmarie’ is to use her techniques to reduce the clutter in your home and create more peace. While personally working through her process, we found a few things we were able to let go and sell to others, and that has been good for our wallets!
KonMarie is Good for the Planet. We all know the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ and many of us try to put it into practice in one way or another. Using the KonMarie method in our own homes has been somewhat exhausting and we have come to realize that we just own too much stuff! Consequently, in the future, we’ll think twice before buying new items. Clearing out spaces and reducing our future purchases is not only another benefit to our wallets, but it’s also good for the planet!
KonMarie is Good for the Women’s Center. Believe it or not, the Marie Kondo craze has been good for the Women’s Center! When the tv series first came out, in conjunction with everyone’s new year’s resolutions, the resale industry saw a major uptick in donations across the country. Our resale shop, PakRatz, was no exception!
Of course, new merchandise means more sales, and more sales means more money to fund our Women’s Center mission. If you haven’t already, please consider a ‘tidying up’ of your own home and bring your donations to us. While you are here, take a look at our new spring inventory, compliments of Marie Kondo. You might just find that perfect raincoat, prom dress, or Mother’s Day gift.
All of this helps fund our mission to empower victims and survivors of domestic abuse through:
